The Secretary of State for the Home Office, more commonly known as the Home Secretary, is Senior Minister of the Crown and responsible for the domestic affairs of the Empire of Great Britain. They are appointed by the Sovereign on the advice of the Prime Minister and sit ex-officio as a Member of the Cabinet. The Home Secretary can be a Member of Parliament, but this is not always the case.
