Sir James Stephenson KCB OM (joined 21 August 2019) is a British statesman, parliamentarian, and politician. He has formerly served as Prime Minister of Great Britain, Secretary of State for Overseas, Speaker of the House of Commons, and Member of Parliament for Brecon and Radnorshire.
Political Career prior to the Return
James was first elected to the house of Commons in 2019 during this term the country was undergoing the Imperator Crisis caused by the absence of Queen Victoria II[1]. During this period he had been in favor of the Imperator bill in the mistaken belief that the monarch would not be returning. In the emergency election following the crisis James once again won his seat. This time he was also elected as speaker.
As Speaker James Stephenson headed a great number of reforms to the way in which the commons was run, setting a standard for scheduling debates and bills. He also a large amount of activity. Alongside this he drafted and passed bills that allowed for the creation of political parties.
James resigned at the end of the session and founded the BWP as one of the first political parties in the region. In the elections for the June session of 2020 James won his seat again and along with his party secured the first party parliamentary majority seen in the region. Under James the BWP formed a coalition with the centrists with much of the cabinet being members of the BWP. The party survived a split with the radicals just days after the elections. James served as Overseas Secretary for a time following this election.
On the 4th August 2020 James was appointed as Prime Minister by King William [2]. After extended inactivity James resigned the premiership on the 18 September 2020.
Following this James wandered politically forming and disbanding a number of minor parties before wandering off into the wilderness. On the 21st June 2024 he returned having sailed for many years on his private sailing ship 'The Luxembourg'.
July 2024 General Election and 33rd Session of Parliament
July 2024 General Election
During the July 2024 General Election James Stephenson contested the seat of Brecon and Radnor as an 'Independent Socialist'[3]. His campaign focused on changes to the economy and the tax system designed to increase activity particularly for newer citizens. On the 29th June Stephenson reiterated his commitment to being an independent candidate until the end of the 33rd session[4].
BBC Candidates Debate
During the BBC candidates debate Stephenson reiterated his policies with regards to the regional economy heavily.
Results
Stephenson was elected to his seat with a total of 16 votes out of a possible 27 (59.259%) following the results Stephenson immediatly gave a speech congratulationg thoose who were elected, giving comisserations to thoose who failed to reach 50% of the vote and setting out his agenda for the Session. He also called for the left to increasingly affilate with one another beyond party lines. He also qeustioned the decision making of the BWP with regards to forming a government with the Unionists [1].
33rd Session of Parliament
At the start of the 33rd Session of Parliament, Stephenson was placed as Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer within the "Purple-Red-Grey Coalition" led by the LPAP. Stephenson's first act in Parliament was to nominate the Rt.Hon. Member for New Forest East, Frederick Carandini Wright for the role of speaker.
